Recipes are a bit like poetry—they are constantly evolving and rarely complete. Writing down all of my evolving recipes led me back to writing poetry again, so I think about this cycle of evolving (or changing) often. I wonder what it is in your life that is constantly evolving?
This week’s recipe evolved with the help of Lark readers. I couldn’t get the batch recipe I had in mind quite right, so I asked my readers, and one had the idea of adding black cherry soda, which made it JUST RIGHT!
So, enjoy the search for black vodka (at King’s Cove if you live in Holland, MI!) and making this cocktail! It is great at Halloween but could be fun for adult-themed Harry Potter parties or any occasion where a drink that is a bit different is necessary.
Batch Brew for Witches
Serves 20 (in a 10-ounce rocks glass filled halfway with ice)
6 cups black vodka
⅓ cups lime juice
1 tablespoon lime bitters
6 ½ cups black cherry soda (Boylan or Faygo!)
1 ¼ cups tart cherry juice
1 ¾ cups club soda
1 small jar maraschino cherries (Luxardo is my preference), for serving
Combine all of the ingredients in a gallon container except cherry and club soda; swirl gently to mix.
Right before serving, add cherry soda and club soda and pour the mixed cocktail into a serving vessel. Serve cherries on the side for garnish!
