Kombucha Sage

I created this recipe on the day after Thanksgiving, when all I wanted was a long run and anything that helped me digest the rich food consumed (or OVERconsumed) the day before. Therefore, I would like to introduce you to Kombucha Sage! Kombucha, as you may know, is a fermented tea that has become popular and loved in recent years, especially for its health properties. If you want to LOVE it, add vodka! The equal combination of vodka, kombucha, and sparkling water is perfect over iceโ€”and the sage gives it a little autumn twist that enhances the herbal quality of the tea. Try it. Love it. Then let me know what you think!

Kombucha Sage
Serves 20 (in a 10-ounce rocks glass filled halfway with ice)

3 ยผ cups vodka (one 750-milliliter bottle)
6 cups kombucha (three 16.2-ounce bottlesโ€”I use Synergy Gingerberry, but if you have a favorite brand, or are lucky enough to make your own, use that!)
6 cups club soda
At least 40 sage leaves
Lemon wedges from 2 lemons, if desired
Ice

  1. Add a bottle of vodka to a gallon jug.

  2. Swirl kombucha in the bottle, wait until the fizz dies down, and pour over vodka.

  3. Add 20 sage leaves (preferably still on the stem) to the gallon.

  4. Refrigerate if not serving immediately.

  5. Just before serving, add club soda.

  6. Serve over ice in a rocks glass. In a bowl nearby, have 20 sage leaves and 20 lemon slices to add to individual servings if desired. We prefer it without lemon, so let us know what you like!
