Orange Turmeric Margaritas

This is a great, healthy spin on traditional and over-made margaritas. You will love them, and they are worth all the work.

Orange Turmeric Margaritas
Serves 4 (in a 10-ounce rocks glass filled halfway with ice)

 2 cups tequila blanco
1 cup bottled Key West lime juice
1 cup fresh orange juice
1 ½ cups honey turmeric syrup
3 oranges, halved and sliced thin

Make the turmeric honey syrup:

  1. Add ¾ cup honey, 1 ½ cups water, and 2 tablespoons turmeric powder (or 8 inches fresh turmeric peeled and grated) to a saucepan.

  2. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring frequently to incorporate the turmeric.

  3. Let the mixture cool, and then strain with a cheesecloth into a fine-mesh sieve (place cheesecloth or a thin clean kitchen towel over it) over a container.

  4. Combine all ingredients in a half-gallon container, stir vigorously, and serve. This drink is delicious served with a lot of ice and garnished with a slice of orange in a rocks glass.
