ABOUT THIS MONTH’S COCKTAIL: For years, I have resisted the mule cocktail. Trends for this classic drink have come and gone, and I held my ground because the ginger reminds me of the ginger capsules taken on long plane trips (they never helped avoid nausea as promised) and that copper cup was just too OVER THE TOP and flashy for me. But if age has taught me one thing, it has taught me that I can change. One of my changes for 2024: I love the mule. The fizzy ginger bite mixed with winter citrus can be amazing when it has two elements–a super boozy taste (goodbye, watered down mules) and an element of heat to elevate every flavor. I had a hard time deciding what cocktail to feature this month, but this Red Hot Mule (boring name: Spicy Pomegranate Mule) was the winner and I could not be happier to feature what you all asked for–winter citrus and a bit of jalapeño heat.
The Red Hot Mule! This cocktail contains gin, lime, grapefruit and pomegranate juice, jalapeño (if desired) and ginger beer.
DETAILS: You can make this winter cocktail as spicy or non-spicy as you’d like by simply adjusting the number of jalapeños. I find that 2 thin slices (with seeds) make the perfect drink. Bottle club members will receive a few jalapeños on the side and can play with the flavors as you pour a cup. This cocktail contains gin, lime, grapefruit and pomegranate juice, jalapeño (if desired) and ginger beer. If you are opposed to GIN, we have small amounts of vodka available — just ask!
